Kalpakkam now joins the only other atomic installation, Tarapur in Maharashtra, to have flights barred over its immediate airspace.


Sources said in almost every security meeting held following the recent Mumbai attack, the intelligence agencies had been stressing the need to declare Kalpakkam a no fly zone.

"This was the first priority item in almost every meeting. The Indian Air Force also asked for declaring Kalpakkam a no fly zone given its extremely high threat perception. Hence in national interest, the DGCA has issued the order on Tuesday without losing any time," said sources.

IA flight gets a scare while landing

Passengers on board the Indian Airlines Lucknow-Delhi flight IC-812 had a hair-raising experience as the aircraft was asked to go around at the last moment while landing at the Delhi airport on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place at 6.45 pm, when another aircraft was spotted on the same runway as the Indian Airlines flight was about to touch down.

Just seconds before the aircraft was set to land, senior training pilot Captain R S Sandhu spotted an aircraft on the runway. The flight was at a height of 200 feet at that time. Captain Sandhu informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and asked permission for a go-round, which was immediately granted

Salboni, November 2 : West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and Union ministers Ramvilas Paswan and Jitin Prasada escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday afternoon after suspected Maoists triggered a landmine explosion on a village road in Salboni, West Midnapore, almost immediately after their vehicles had passed.

Six policemen were injured, two of them critically, after the explosion rattled an electricity pole and caused a high-tension wire to snap and fall on the last vehicle in the convoy.

Guwahati (PTI): Five security personnel, escorting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, were injured when their escort vehicle met with an accident near the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.

The Maruti Gypsy escort vehicle rolled off a small bridge at Bhangagarh near the hospital injuring the five, official sources said.

The injured were admitted to the GMCH where the condition of four was stated to be out of danger while the fifth person's condition was stated to be serious.

The Prime Minister and the UPA chairperson were on their way to the GMCH to visit the injured in Thursday's serial blast which claimed 77 lives.

Also aviation industry needs to keep at high alert reg. Air crashes (Oct. 27, 2008) as a earlier a plane crash in Punjab, a passenger arrested in Mumbai for suspicious behaviour now an emergency landing of Air India Plane in Delhi.

AI flight makes emergency landing at IGI airport

New Delhi (PTI): An Air India Tirupati-bound flight with 66 passengers on board had to make an emergency landing here after an hour of its take off due to some technical fault, airport officials said.

"Air India's Delhi- Hyderabad-Tirupati flight (IC 942) had to make an emergency landing after an hour of its take off from the Indira Gandhi International airport here around 10.15 am due to some technical fault," officials said.

Today's Threat level is Orange.
